The ever excellent Mad Not Mad Skazine has reviewed The Bakesys' “Return To The Planet Of” Live CD on Do The Dog Music in their latest issue:

"Do The Dog big cheese Kevin was/is the keyboard player of The Bakesys, who formed in the excitement of third wave ska, early 1990, & built up a strong following live culminating in an awesome 14 date tour of Germany in 1994. It was 1997 when The Bakesys finally had an album to their name - an excellent 10 track affair put together using newly recorded stuff & the other tracks which had been used on compilations. I reviewed it in the very first issue of Mad Not Mad & it was one of the reasons that I was excited enough about the state of contemporary ska to knock out new issues for several years. Really enjoyable, fast paced 2 tone & 3rd wave ska with a touch of occasional reggae. Of course, the very make up of the album meant that there was a lengthy list of musicians involved. Time moved on, people had careers & families & the band was gone. Finally, it’s great to see another release, albeit a live one, taken from that momentous German tour of 1994. The recording is pleasingly clear & the standard of musicianship is outstanding. There are some old favourites included, of course, a brilliant rendition of "Liquidator" & the ever wonderful "Sex Freaks" & "Days Gone By". However, other tunes inevitably vary greatly between live set & studio album. "Life So Tuff" & "Animated Violence" are often really quite different beasts on this recording than they were on the studio album - still great, of course, but different. No different, in fact, to the way that the reformed Specials are knocking out a great live version of "Ghost Town" that definitely differs from the original classic single. A real plus point for me is that there are 5 tunes appearing on CD for the first time, highlights being "Sunnyside Up", which delivers a classic Bakesys’ sound & amusing lyrics to boot, & "Revolution", a much more reggae style beauty. The album ends on old favourite "Looking For Love", fast of pace, sang well & leaving me wanting more. Many live albums fail because they can’t successfully recreate the studio quality whilst also managing to reflect the live experience. The Bakesys make light work of it - this tops my list of live albums most likely to keep being played!"
